Approaching thunderstorm with rolling thunder

Approaching thunderstorms can be very relaxing and help you to get to sleep anytime you hear them. It is actually possible to estimate how close a thunderstorm is by counting the time from when you see lightening to when you hear the thunder. If you divide the number of seconds you counted by 5 then you have an approximate estimate in miles.

e.g if you count 10 seconds between lightening and thunder we get :

10/5 = 2 miles away.

In kilometers we divide by 3 e.g 10/3 = 3.3 kilometers away
